Commissioners’ Court approved a resolution honoring the career of Precinct 2 Constable Gilbert "Chato" Alaniz. Mr. Alaniz has dedicated over 37 years of service to the law enforcement community, including 27 and a half years with Hidalgo County. Mr. Alaniz began his career as a dispatcher for the San Juan Police Department and he went on to be a Lieutenant Supervisor at the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. At the age of 33 the loss of his mother triggered a search for a sense of purpose in his life; he decided to run for Precinct 2 Constable and won. In January of 1993 he was sworn into office and held the position for 20 years. Judge Ramon Garcia thanked Mr. Alaniz for his decades of service to the citizens of Hidalgo County. Mr. Alaniz was joined by supporters including family, friends and colleagues. Mr. Alaniz expressed his gratitude to the court for the recognition and vowed to continue to serve the public in the future. View more photos >>
