Hidalgo County Commissioners' Court/Drainage District Board of Directors met in session on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 and considered agendas that included the following highlights: 

COMMISSIONERS' COURT APPROVES APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBER TO SOUTH TEXAS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS

County Judge Ramon Garcia appointed the final member to the South Texas Independent School District Board of Directors. Judge Garcia appointed Graciela Camargo, a principal in the South Texas Independent School District. Ms. Camargo has dedicated her entire career to the public school system, specializing in Special Education. Ms. Camargo thanked the court for the honor.


COMMUTER RAIL BOARD PRESENTS 
STATUS UPDATE TO COURT 

Board members Jim Edge and Roy Tijerina went before Commissioners’ Court to present an update on the Commuter Rail Board activities. The members reported that the proposed next step involves the alternative analysis, an in-depth look at engineering, evaluation of current transportation assets, and identification of financing options. Mr. Edge explained how the system could expect to transport 13,000 riders per day and it would include rail and bus lines connecting cities, businesses and public entities. The board believes the construction can also facilitate more job growth in the area as businesses develop near the commuter system stations.

ARCHITECTURE FIRMS APPROVED FOR NOMINATION IN DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF NEW COURTHOUSE COMPLEX

11 architecture firms were presented to Commissioners’ Court for nomination into the pool of candidates for the design and construction of the new courthouse complex. The court decided to include all 11 firms into the pool of possible nominations. The next step is to approve a committee to oversee the selection of the architecture firm.
