3. Can a vehicle be operated after the registration expires?

Yes, a vehicle may be operated for five days after the registration expires without paying a penalty. After the five days the penalty is 20% of the registration fee if ticket has been issued.

4. Is the purchaser given a specified length of time in which to file an application for transfer of title at the County Tax Assessor / Collector Office?

Yes, 30 working days to avoid paying penalties. Weekends and Holidays are not counted as part of the 30 working days.

5. For what period of time may a new Texas resident display their current out-of-state license plates?

For a period of 30 days after you establish residency or enter into gainful employment, the vehicle must be registered in Texas.
