A special election is hereby ordered to be held on November 7, 2023 pursuant to Texas Tax Code Sections 26.05 and 26.08 to approve the 2023-2024 ad valorem tax rate for McAllen ISD because the adopted rate exceeds the MISD Voter-Approval Tax Rate ("VATR").


At the Election, the ballot proposition shall be submitted to the qualified voters of the District using the language required by statute:


"Ratifying the ad valorem tax rate of $0.8448 Maintenance and Operations in McAllen Independent School District for the current year, a rate that will result in an increase of minus 18.70 percent in maintenance and operations tax revenue for the district for the current year as compared to the preceding year, which is an additional

  $ -16,782,107."



Early voting by personal appearance will be conducted beginning on October 23 and ending on November 3, 2023.

Early voting hours and locations will be determined and operated by Hidalgo County and reflected in an exhibit to this Order.
