AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF EDCOUCH, TEXAS ORDERING A MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 2, 2021 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING THE MAYOR, ALDERMAN PLACE 3, ALDERMAN PLACE 4, AND ESTABLISHING EARLY VOTING LOCATIONS AND POLLING PLACES; EARLY VOTING DATES AND HOURS FOR SAID ELECTION.
WHEREAS, Vernon's Texas Civil Statues, Texas Election Law, prescribes that the Mayor of the governing body shall order a Municipal Election and notice of said election be given in accordance with said laws and;
WHEREAS, the terms of office of Mayor, Alderman Place 3, and Alderman Place 4 of the City of Edcouch will expire November 2, 2021.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF EDCOUCH, TEXAS THAT:
1. The Honorable Virginie Gonzalez Jr., Mayor of the City of Edcouch, Texas by virtue of the power vested in him by law, does hereby Order that an Election be held in the City of Edcouch, Texas on November 2, 2021, being the first Tuesday of said month, for the purpose of electing the following officers for a two (2) year term: Mayor, Alderman Place 3, and Alderman Place 4.
2. The ballots for the City election will conform to the requirements of the Texas Election Code.
3. All requests by candidates to have their names placed upon the ballot for the above-mentioned election shall be in writing and signed by the candidates. Such request to be filed no later than 5:00 pm. August 16, 2021. All candidates for city office may file for office beginning July 17,2021.
4. The polling place for Election Day, November 2, 2021 shall be as follows:

Saturday, October 23, 2021 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Early voting by personal appearance shall be by voting machines and early voting by mail shall be by paper ballot. The presiding judge of the Absentee Ballot Board shall submit separate returns of the absentee votes.
6. The Mayor of the City of Edcouch shall give notice of said Election and this Ordinance of "Order of Notice of Election" Shall serve as notice of said election at three (3) public places, which said notice shall be posted at least twenty (20) days before the date of the Election.
7. On Election Day the polls shall be opened on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the method of voting shall be by Electronic System. Immediately after the votes have been counted the election officers shall deliver returns of said election in replicates. One copy being delivered to the Mayor of the City of Edcouch, one being retained by the Presiding Judge and one copy with the election supplies, being delivered to the City Secretary as provided by the Election Code.
8. The Board of Aldermen will meet on Thursday, the 11th of November 2021 at 6:00 p.m. for the purpose of officially canvassing the Election Returns and declaring the results.
