Hidalgo County extends shelter order as death count passes 1,000

For the second time, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez has extended the county-wide shelter-at-home order as an effort to control the spread of COVID-19 in the region on Wednesday. 

The order, which was slated to expire Wednesday, has been extended by 25 days. The announcement of the extension was made in a county news release. 

Hidalgo County Elections Office Gets OK To Mail Mail-In Ballot Applications

For the first time ever, the Hidalgo County Elections Office will be sending every resident 65 and older an application for a mail-in ballot. County commissioners this week approved a recommendation from the county election board that allows the Elections Office to mail out the applications. 


Fraud alert service to launch in Hidalgo County

Hidalgo County Clerk Arturo Guajardo announced Wednesday he has launched a free fraud alert service that will notify property owners when his or her name is used in any recording activity in the officials records department.

Guajardo partnered with Kofile technologies for the monitoring service. Subscribers will receive notifications via email each time a document is recorded with their name or property description.

Valley veteran concerned about potential delay in medication delivery

Some people are already concerned about potential delays in getting their mail, and one veteran depends on a timely delivery. His prescription medication is shipped through the mail.

Guadalupe Saenz, a retired Air Force and Navy veteran who served for a total of 23 years, says he wasn't sure what to think when he noticed that his prescriptions were taking a little longer to arrive.
