Hidalgo County reports 25 more coronavirus-related deaths, 528 new cases

Hidalgo County reported on Tuesday 25 more deaths due to coronavirus complications, as well as 528 additional cases — bringing the total number of fatalities in the county to 999 and the total of confirmed coronavirus cases to 22,826.

According to a news release from the county, there are currently 444 COVID-19 patients under hospitalization, including 185 in intensive care units.

Mail-in ballot applications OK’d for 65 and over

The Hidalgo County Commissioners Court approved a motion to send applications for mail-in ballots to residents who are ages 65 and over during a special meeting Tuesday.

Prior to their discussion, the commissioners held a public forum in which residents shared their support or opposition to the mail-in ballot applications.

Hidalgo County District Attorney is reminding the public to be vigilant as recent changes in daily routines have increased the risk of child abuse and neglect.

District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez Jr. shares that some of the signs to look for include unexplained injuries, depression, fear of a certain adult, sudden changes in eating and/or sleeping habits, secrecy and hostility.
