Hidalgo County announces 19 more coronavirus-related deaths, 285 additional cases

Hidalgo County reported on Monday 19 more deaths due to coronavirus complications, as well as 285 additional cases — bringing the total number of fatalities in the county to 974 and the total of confirmed coronavirus cases to 22,298.


Of the total number of people who tested positive in the Hidalgo County since the beginning of the pandemic, 16,484 have been released from isolation. According to the news release, there are currently 4,840 known active cases in Hidalgo County.


DHR to hold plasma donation drive

The Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR) said donations of recovered COVID-19 patients’ plasma is helping others currently fighting the virus.

DHR said that so far, they have received over 1,000 donations and need more donors.

Mission allocates $700K in COVID-19 relief for businesses

The City of Mission announced it is accepting applications for a pair of programs designed to assist small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city said it has allocated an additional $700,000 in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) funds to help businesses experiencing immediate financial crisis.

Family adopts new routine during pandemic, counselor encourages activities

 As restrictions remain in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some families have resorted to creative solutions to stay safe and avoid feeling shut in.

One Brownsville family said roller skating has helped them adapt to being home more often.   

Gina Solis is a mother of four and has been cautious during this pandemic to keep her family safe.
