Hidalgo County exceeds 20,000 cases of COVID-19

HIdalgo County has passed the 20,000 mark for COVID-19 cases after confirming an additional 407 new cases on Monday.

The total number of cases in the county is now 20,148.

Red Cross assistance goes virtual because of pandemic

The Red Cross has announced that because of the pandemic, damage assessment from Hurricane Hanna will be done virtually.

Residents will be able to call the Red Cross and speak with case workers to see if they are eligible for hurricane relief.

New Hidalgo County program will pay up to $2,000 toward coronavirus-related funeral expenses

Hidalgo County announced Monday that an assistance program will now be available to help families pay for coronavirus-related funeral expenses. 

The Hidalgo County COVID Condolence Program is a program that assists eligible individuals who have lost a loved one due to COVID-19 with up to $2,000 in funeral expenses.

Restaurants, bars and breweries scramble to reinvent themselves to get around Gov. Greg Abbott's bar shutdown

Hundreds of Texas bars and restaurants are scrambling to change how they operate, maneuvering through loopholes that will allow them to reopen after being closed by Gov. Greg Abbott’s latest shutdown targeting bars.

Abbott has shut bars down twice since the coronavirus pandemic emerged in Texas. The first time bars were swept up in a total lockdown of statewide businesses. But the second time, on June 26, Abbott singled bars out while allowing virtually every other kind of business in Texas to stay open.
