Hidalgo County extends shelter-at-home order

Hidalgo County’s shelter-at-home order is extended for another two weeks.

On Wednesday, Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez announced that the county’s shelter-in-place order will go in effect on Thursday, August 6 at 12:01 a.m. and remain in effect until Wednesday, August 19.

Hidalgo Co. receives $250K grant for first responders

The Moody Foundation awarded Hidalgo County $250,000 to provide personal protective equipment for first responders and front-line workers, county officials announced Monday.

The grant was awarded as part of the foundation’s recent round of COVID-19 relief grants that support the immediate basic needs of first responders in Texas.


Damage from Hanna not yet enough for FEMA aid

Health officials warn about mosquito-borne diseases

Stagnant floodwater is contributing to a major mosquito problem in parts of the Rio Grande Valley.

While they can't transmit COVID-19, mosquitoes transmit other diseases, including Zika, West Nile and dengue fever.
