On Wednesday, Hidalgo County officials announced 651 new positive cases and 35 COVID-19 related deaths, a new single-day record high. Judge Richard F. Cortez said Tuesday was the county's "deadliest day yet" after 31 fatalities were reported.
The number of COVID-related fatalities is now up to 218, the majority of which were reported in the last two weeks. There are over 9,200 known cases of COVID-19 in Hidalgo County and at least 4,800 of those cases are still active.
