According to a release, Arturo Guajardo, Jr., 51, disclosed his results on Monday. He is currently recovering at home.

Melendez said he became aware of his positive diagnosis on Monday morning.

Early voting for runoff elections in the state are underway, along with new measures to keep voters safe while casting their ballot.

Remi Garza, Cameron County elections administrator, says the first thing early voters will see is hand sanitizer and social distancing would need to be followed. If people don’t have a face mask, one will be offered as they enter the polling location.

Multiple factors affecting Valley hospitalization rates

Family dynamics, dwindling medical supplies, and holidays are contributing to the rise in COVID-19 related hospitalizations across the Rio Grande Valley. Hospital administrators and public health officials explained the correlation via a press conference held Monday.

Hidalgo County Health Department Director Eddie Olivarez said they're monitoring over 120 clusters ranging from two to as many as a dozen.
