Hidalgo County announces 26 new COVID-19 cases, free testing

The total amount of known COVID-19 cases in Hidalgo County rose to 759 after the county reported 26 new cases in a Monday news release.

The 26 new cases included a county employee who works with the Health and Human Services Department. The employee was on leave when they tested positive and they never had contact with the public when they became infected, the county stated.

Mass food distribution event to be held at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg

A food distribution event is set to take place from 7 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg.

Tuesday’s event will be the second time the Food Bank RGV collaborates with the Bert Ogden Arena for a mass food distribution event.

"A lot of positive cases that are connected to the same households or families. So that indicates that people are gathering within families. There's been a lot of graduations these past couple weeks, there's been memorial day. So these are the reasons that we can suspect that are causing some of the increase in numbers," says Dr. Prot.
