Governor Abbott addresses sports, plans for schools in the fall

Governor Greg Abbott joined CBS 4 for a live interview to discuss the new regulation allowing pro sports complexes to resume operations at 25 percent capacity.

During the interview, Abbott mentioned that he has been in contact with health officials to assure that all reopening are done so in safe way.

Texas will extend early voting period this fall, Gov. Greg Abbott says

Gov. Greg Abbott said Thursday he will extend the early voting period for an unspecified amount of time during the November election as concerns continue to persist around in-person voting during the coronavirus pandemic.

Abbott has already doubled the time period for the primary runoff election July 14, calling it necessary so that "election officials can implement appropriate social distancing and safe hygiene practices."

Cities, county search for compromise on $151M relief

Hidalgo County and its 22 cities have seven months to spend $151 million in coronavirus relief money, an endeavor like no other that’s proving to be more complicated than anyone seemingly expected.

A large part of the problem comes from a lack of communication, starting from the federal government, which did not attach specific instructions on how exactly the county should share those funds with its cities.

Border mayors demand more coronavirus funds from South Texas county

The mayors of 22 border cities in South Texas on Thursday demanded that Hidalgo County commissioners distribute more federal coronavirus reimbursement funds to their communities, and keep less for the county.

However, federal funding was based on a formula of $174.60 per capita and the mayors said they want every penny that they believe is owed to them.
