Pharr to open COVID-19 Recovery Center

The city of Pharr has announced a COVID-19 Recovery Center to provide resources, support and information to local residents, businesses and families.

The center will provide individualized and customized support for individuals who may be in need of assistance with issues related to COVID-19, according to a Pharr news release submitted Tuesday.

Border-travel restrictions to remain in effect through June 22

Travel restrictions between the U.S., Mexico and Canada remain in effect.

The restrictions were scheduled to be lifted on Wednesday – according to acting Homeland Security Secretary, Chad Wolf, non-essential travel will not be permitted until the administration feels it is safe and secure.

Hidalgo County divides $151 million among 22 cities for COVID-19 costs

Good news for those in Hidalgo County hurt by the economic impacts of COVID-19. 

More than $151 million is already in Hidalgo County’s hands as part of the federally funded CARES Act.

The funding will be spread out among 22 cities based on population. 

Drainage upgrades to prompt Jackson Avenue closure

The city of McAllen has announced the closure of Jackson Avenue on Wednesday for drainage improvements.

According to a news release, Jackson Avenue, between South 8th and South 2nd street, will be closed to through traffic in both directions from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.
