Coronavirus claims life of Alamo man, Hidalgo County reports

Hidalgo County announced the coronavirus-related death on Monday. Officials identified the deceased as a 63-year-old man from Alamo.

County Judge Richard F. Cortez says the number of patients in intensive care also dropped. Eighteen people are being treated at hospitals, including two patients who remain in ICU.

Hidalgo County judge reacts to Gov. Greg Abbott's Open Texas plan

Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez responded to Governor Greg Abbott’s Open Texas plan in a statement issued on Monday.

“I too rely on data and advice from medical professionals to dictate my actions. So with that in mind, I am also considering transitioning some of our local restrictions to voluntary preventive measures,” said Judge Richard F. Cortez in the statement.

In a press release, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez responded to Governor Greg Abbott’s Open Texas Plan.

The Open Texas Plan calls for the stay at home order to expire, Thursday, allowing more retail outlets to open beginning Friday.

Coronavirus testing centers open today in Donna, Elsa

Two new, drive-thru coronavirus testing centers will open Monday in Hidalgo County.

Emergency Diagnostic Solutions partnered with the city of Elsa, the city of Edcouch, the city of La Villa and the Monte Alto school district to open a drive-thru testing center at Mario Leal Park in Elsa.

TMA pleased Texas hospitals need reserve only 15% capacity for COVID-19 patients

The Texas Medical Association has welcomed Gov. Greg Abbott’s announcement that Texas hospitals now need to reserve only 15 percent of their capacity for COVID-19 patients.

Meanwhile, Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez is pleased with Gov. Abbott’s announcement about opening Texas to to more economic activity. Abbott on Monday said he would not be renewing the stay-at-home order that lapses on April 30.
