Jury trials cancelled until June 1

All jury trials in Hidalgo County have been canceled for nearly a month.

On Tuesday, the board of judges voted to extend an order stopping all trials until June 1.
The measure followed Hidalgo County’s initial COVID-19 declaration that was issued on March 11.

Cities pave the way for non-essential retailers to reopen

Texas is ready to get back to business and Hidalgo County cities are following suit.

Following guidance from Governor Greg Abbott, non-essential businesses will begin opening across the state Friday on a curbside basis with social distancing and hygiene measures in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Some South Texas border retailers to open for curbside pickup on Friday

The moment that many retailers and South Texas border residents have been waiting over a month ago for will come Friday when many businesses reopen their doors — sort of — since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

“This doesn’t mean we can’t still be careful. It doesn’t mean we don’t have to still be watchful of others. We still have to be respectful and careful of each other, but there’s new things happening,” Darling said.

RGV coronavirus death toll up to 19; Hidalgo Co. reports 23 released from isolation

As the Rio Grande Valley’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 19 Thursday evening, more cases were also reportedly removed from isolation.

Also, 23 people who had previously tested positive for COVID-19 in Hidalgo County were released from isolation, county Judge Richard F. Cortez announced in a news release Thursday night. 

McAllen retailers to reopen under certain city requirements

McAllen’s city manager says more traffic may be an indication that businesses are preparing to reopen. Certain restrictions will be lifted on Friday to allow some retailers and businesses to get back to work.

The lights are back on, the gates are opening. Some businesses are no longer forced to stay closed but they have to follow certain rules and safety is number one.Click here to add body text to this section.
