If it saves lives, I’m in favor of closing border

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez said he would support the closure of international bridges, airports and interstates if it saved people from dying of COVID-19.

Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez is thought to be considering stricter enforcement of his stay-at-home policy, after learning that more people were out and about this past weekend than expected. 

“We are in a war now,” Cortez said. “Each one of us is a soldier and we have the weapon to fight this. Stay home and follow good hygiene.”

Hidalgo County now reporting 38 total cases of COVID-19

Hidalgo County health officials have confirmed 10 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing the total there to 38, and 70 total in the Rio Grande Valley.

The news came Monday night via a news release attributing the announcement to Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez. This also comes after Cameron County had just announced a six-case increase there to tally 26.



Cortez: I am begging you to stay at home

Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez is begging people to abide by his shelter in place order and stay at home.

Cortez made his plea the day after another ten cases related to the coronavirus were reported in Hidalgo County. The ten cases brings to 38 the total number of people diagnosed with the disease in the county.

10 more people test positive for COVID-19 in Hidalgo County

There are now a total of 38 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the county after 10 more people tested positive for the disease, the county announced Monday.

“I’m so proud of all of you who have adhered to this order,”  Cortez said. “I know a lot of hardship on businesses and individuals have resulted from this order.”

Coronavirus Cases Continue To Rise Across The Valley

There is more evidence that the coronavirus is spreading from person to person in the Rio Grande Valley. The number of cases grew by 18 across the Valley Monday, and health officials suspect some of the infections are the result of a community spread, while the other individuals contracted the virus while traveling outside of the Valley.
