Texas Update

Governor Abbott Announces Federal Grant for Senior Citizen Meals
Governor Greg Abbott announced that Texas has received a $16.2 million grant from the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Administration for Community Living (ACL) to help communities provide meals for older adults. The grant was part of a $250 million dollar outlay authorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, signed into law by President Trump on March 18, 2020.

RGV Update

Willacy County issues curfew for residents to prevent spread of virus

Willacy County Judge Aurelio Guerra announced countywide travel restrictions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. It goes into effect Wednesday night. Guerra referred to the restriction as a curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. for all non-essential travel in the county. According to the county judge, the curfew does not apply to people with traveling to or from their “essential” workplace.

Hidalgo County Update

Protective Order Applications Received by Phone
A plan of action is announced by Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez, Jr. to temporarily implement that all Protective Order applications adhere to be received by phone to ensure the safety of citizens and employees of Hidalgo County.

Hidalgo County Commissioners Court Modifies Normal County Operations Beginning March 30
Hidalgo County Commissioners Court voted unanimously on Tuesday to suspend normal operations beginning Monday, March 30 because of “events beyond the control of the County,” related to the pandemic of COVID-19. The order will remain in effect until Monday, April 27.

Hidalgo County Commissioners Add Supplemental Meeting to its Tuesday Session of Commissioners Court

Hidalgo County Commissioners Court took action to reimburse Hidalgo County Community Service Agency's local account fund in the amount of $32,000 for the purchase of emergency food bags to be utilized due to the COVID-19 emergency disaster declaration.
