March is national nutrition month
National Nutrition Month is a nutrition-education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
"Food is the substance by which life is sustained," said Hidalgo County Precinct 2 Commissioner Eduardo "Eddie" Cantu who sponsored the proclamation.
The proclamation promoting nutritional food and education was unanimously passed at today's meeting.
"The type, quality, and amount of food that the individuals consume each day plays a vital role in their overall health and physical fitness," Cantu said. "There is a need for continuing education and effort to enhance healthy eating practices."
Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics South Region Director Dr. Andie Gonzalez, and Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Legislative Chair Iliana Guerra-Martinez, fully support the Hidalgo County Wellness Program and its initiatives.
The county encourages employees, community leaders and businesses to join the campaign in the hopes of achieving optimum health.
