Hidalgo County addresses coronavirus concerns via webpage


Hidalgo County launched a website Monday to keep residents informed about the new coronavirus as fears about a possible endemic spreading across the world.

The webpage www.hidalgocounty.us/coronavirusupdates will give information about the spread of the virus, and users can sign up for emergency alerts via phone, text and email.


Health officials: No cases of coronavirus in the Valley


Health officials in Hidalgo County are reassuring the public that there is no threat of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Rio Grande Valley.

On Monday, the Hidalgo County Health Department addressed false claims circulating on social media of virus cases in the Valley.

Hidalgo County early voting lagged, but voters still have today to consider presidential, state, local races


Even though Hidalgo County cast 374 more ballots during this year’s early voting period, turnout is down nearly 3% when compared to the same time frame in 2016, according to unofficial figures released by the county’s elections department.

Still, Texans have one more chance to vote on a number of issues on Super Tuesday, including the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees for the 2020 primary.

With thousands of people getting ready to cast their votes for the March 3 Primary election, experts from Cameron and Hidalgo County share what voters can expect before heading to the polls.

Hilda Salinas, Assistant Director, Hidalgo County Elections Department, “We had a total of 51,023 get out and head to the polling locations to cast their ballots, now in 2020 in total we had 50,231. So we missed the mark by 792 votes.”
