New Hidalgo County Courthouse on track says project manager

Progress on the courthouse construction is on track, said Courthouse Project Manager Oscar Garcia, with Jacobs.

At Tuesday's meeting, Garcia reported that structural construction on the courthouse building is complete, which includes interior framing, installation of drywall, and site utilities. Crews continue to work on sanitary sewer connections, and staircases.  

"We continue to have good progress," said Garcia. "The first four levels of the New Hidalgo County Courthouse will be completed by July 13, 2021, and the remainder will be completed by November 10, 2021. We are on track."

Elections Administrator provides updates on 2020 vote

Hidalgo County Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramon says there has been an increase in voter numbers from 2018.

“I’m happy to report the election totals as of Tuesday have increased by 2,280 more votes than last year.” said Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramon, “Elections staff has been working diligently for our voters to administer elections in an efficient manner along with maintaining a call center that has been set up for all polling locations.”

Ramon also reminds everyone not to wait until the last minute to vote. Early voting continues until Friday, Feb. 28 with Election Day on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"We encourage voters to become informed and know their ballot before they head to the polls,” said Ramon. "Visit our website to read all the propositions before you get there so the lines do not get held up,"

Hidalgo County health officials hold press conference


Hidalgo County health officials held a press conference Wednesday, during which they addressed the coronavirus.

Officials answered questions and informed on safety measures to prevent the spread of any illnesses.


Hidalgo County health officials asks public to practice good hygiene to combat coronavirus


Hidalgo County health officials provided information on Wednesday about the coronavirus in the area.

Chief Administrative Officer Eddie Olivarez confirmed no testing is being done through the Centers of Disease Control for the virus in Hidalgo County. He says health officials are in constant contact with hospitals, schools, the state and federal government.
