Hidalgo County Commissioners Court approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Pharr and the County of Hidalgo for the Scofflaw vehicle registration denial process. Due to the success demonstrated by the County's implementation of the Scofflaw Program, the City of Pharr has been interested in recouping unpaid municipal court fines and fees. Hidalgo County Tax Assessor - Collector Paul Villarreal, Jr., and City of Pharr Municipal Judge Rudy Martinez were in attendance in support of the initiative, which will assess a $20 Scofflaw Fee payable to the County of Hidalgo for cases in which outstanding fines and fees are collected by the Tax Office. Villarreal stated that the collaboration with the City of Pharr is just the beginning of further partnerships anticipated with other municipalities who have shown an interest in participating in the Scofflaw program.
