The Hidalgo County Head Start Program hosted their 8th Annual Parent Fair on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Palmer Pavilion in McAllen, Texas. The event is held annually to provide Head Start parents the opportunity to network with local agencies and receive training. This year, Head Start collaborated with over 60 agencies and provided services including, free health screenings, mini-training sessions, hands on-how to workshops, and free hair cuts. The parents received a warm welcome from members of the Hidalgo County Commissioner's Court including, Precinct 1 Commissioner, A.C. Cuellar, Jr., Precinct 2 Commissioner Hector "Tito" Palacios, Precinct 4 Commissioner Joseph Palacios and Judge Ramon Garcia each echoed the same sentiment on how the Head Start Program is the foundation where Hidalgo County children start their education. The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office raffled 250 turkey dinners amongst the parents. This Thanksgiving the lucky winners are able to enjoy and joyous thanksgiving feast. A Head Start Parent Committee Talent Contest also took place where parents took the opportunity to perform their singing, dancing, acting and magic talents to the audience. The event gathered approximately 1,000 Head Start parents eager to take advantage of the free services and enjoy a day of pampering.
