Commissioners Court recognized La Joya Independent School District and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District for collaborating to make this year's Operation Lone Star a great success.
Operation Lone Star is a public health emergency exercise, held annually that provides free medical care to the residents and families of Hidalgo County. This year residents took advantage of free health screenings and treatments, immunizations, student physicals, hearing and vision exams, behavioral health evaluations and for the first time, dental health exams were provided at PSJA High School. Thousands upon thousands of Valley residents showed up to take advantage of the free medical services, some even spending the night to access the free dental care.
Arriana Vasquez-Hernandez, PSJA ISD Public Information Officer, expressed her gratitude to the Court stating she wished they could have helped many more people and is hopes to recruit more local dental volunteer for next year's Operation Lone Star.
Eden Ramirez, La Joya ISD Public Information Officer, agreed with Ms. Vasquez-Hernandez, stating this years turn out was unprecedented, and he hopes to provide free dental care at Palmview High School during next year's Operation Lone Star.
Hidalgo County Commissioners Court presented the partners with Certificates of Appreciation for their outstanding performance, dedication and contributions during 2013 Operation Lone Star.
