[ARCHIVED] United Way Campaign Going Strong

United Way

Hidalgo County is upping the ante. Through the end of November, Hidalgo County has committed to raise more than $40,000 for the United Way!
The United Way supports organizations such as the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Children's Advocacy Center, Goodwill, the Palmer Drug Abuse Program, Salvation Army and Women Together (Mujeres Unidas) Foundation among others. The United Way gives hundreds of thousands of dollars to these organizations, often a large part of their operating budgets, which in turn support our community during times of disaster or need.
Departments, or businesses, can organize an informational session with a United Way of South Texas representative, who will speak to your group about giving to these worthy causes. The United Way will tell you that the donations can be made directly to the United Way or deducted from your employees' paychecks.
With over 2,700 employees, Hidalgo County has involved the majority of its departments, and the Hidalgo County Commissioners' Court has challenged each department to boost its giving over last year. Information sessions are scheduled through the end of November.
If you would like to schedule an information session or learn more about the United Way, please call Thelma Garza or Gloria Ann at (956) 626-6331. You can also visit www.unitedwayofsotx.org for more information.
