Hidalgo County Commissioners Court recognized the committee of the 2013 Veterans Salute for joining together to coordinate this year's event, "Honoring All Who Served" in the military. The annual event is organized by various veteran service organizations, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, RGV Vets, Wounded Vets Foundation, the Texas Army National Guard Armory, and the Hidalgo County Veterans Service Office. This year’s Veterans Salute will provide veterans and their families the opportunity to speak to agencies and representatives who will offer information about VA benefits, GI Bill information for higher education, vocational rehabilitation services, and employment opportunities.

The event began in November 2008 as a "Welcome Home Celebration" for returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans; today, it continues to honor all veterans.

Patrick Hawkins, Department of Veteran Affairs and committee member, thanked Commissioners Court for the recognition and took a moment to recognize all veterans in the audience for their service in the military.

Hidalgo County Commissioners Court applauds the committee of the 2013 Veterans Salute-Honoring All Who Served, for honoring all veterans as they return home from the Armed Forces, and encourages all veterans and their families to attend the celebration at the Texas Army National Guard Armory in Weslaco on Saturday July 13, 2013 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
