On Monday, May 13, the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office honored fallen deputies and law enforcement officers who lost their lives while serving for Hidalgo County. The annual ceremony was held at the Sheriff's Office, and featured a twenty-one gun salute, TAPS, and the ceremonial walk of a riderless horse, symbolic of the loss of the fallen heroes.
Sheriff Lupe Trevino paid tribute to the five fallen deputies and their families, thanking them for their service and honoring them for giving the ultimate sacrifice to the citizens of Hidalgo County. The five members of the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office who lost their lives, include Deputy Sheriff Sam R. Tidwell, Deputy Sheriff George Dennett, Deputy Sheriff Alvin Marcellus Albrecht, Narcotics Investigator Manuel Abelardo Segovia, Jr., and Deputy Benito Eduardo Bravo.
The sheriff invited representatives from other agencies to step forward and honor their fallen heroes, as well. Members of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Border Patrol and the Alamo Police Department read the names of their lost comrades.
