Commissioners' Court approved a proclamation declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Several representatives from Mujeres Unidas were on hand to receive the honor including Volunteer Coordinator Nelda Hernandez, Sexual Assault Program Coordinator Priscilla Palacios, Prevention Education Coordinator Marcela Balquinta and Interns Jose Salazar and Marta Solis. Mujeres Unidas is a non-profit organization that provides shelter and programs for women, men and children who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. To bring more awareness to the issue of sexual assault, Mujeres Unidas will be hosting several activities this month, including a "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" 5k/Walk on April 20th at the Edinburg Municipal Park. The event is open to the public. All proceeds benefit the Shelter and Rape Crisis Center.
