Commissioners' Court approved the appointment of four high school students in various County departments as part of an internship program at South Texas Independent School District Business, Education and Technology Academy. The internship program strives to provide relevant real life experiences for students that extend beyond the classroom, and mirrors the students' career interests. The appointed interns at Hidalgo County were interested in criminal justice, the courts system, and public affairs; the program matched their interests and placed the students in the 92nd District Court, Indigent Defense Department, Information Technology Department - Criminal Justice Software Division, and the County Judge's Office - Public Affairs Division. The students will devote two hours a day, two days a week, for the entire Spring 2013 semester, and will be overseen by supervisors who will guide and evaluate their work duties and responsibilities. Commissioners' Court congratulated the interns on their appointments and requested a report after successful completion of the internship. The 2013 BETA interns and appointments are:

Marisela Prieto - 92nd District Court
Marcela Hernandez-Flores - IT Department-Criminal Justice Software Division
Cecilia Garza - County Judge's Office - Public Affairs Division
Juanita Isabel Rea - Indigent Defense Department
