A large crowd packed the 139th District Court to witness the swearing in ceremonies of a handful of Hidalgo County Judges on New Year's Day. The returning officials who took the oath of office once again included 92nd District Judge Ricardo Rodriguez, 139th District Judge Bobby Flores, County Court-at-law #8 Judge Rolando Cantu, 398th District Judge Aida Salinas-Flores and Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, Place 1 Gilberto Saenz.

Sergio Valdez, the newly elected judge for County Court-at-law #7, was sworn into office for the first time. Valdez has practiced law in Hidalgo County for the past 18 years. Judge Valdez took over County Court-at-law #7 after Judge Rolando Cantu was appointed to head the newly created County Court-a-law #8.

Several other County elected officials were also sworn into office on Jan. 1.
