Pablo “Paul” Villarreal was sworn into office by 275th State District Judge Juan Partida on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, commencing his tenure as Hidalgo County’s new Tax Assessor-Collector.

Villarreal, who ran unopposed when outgoing Tax Assessor-Collector Armando Barrera retired, is no stranger to the office. Villarreal, a 25-year veteran at the Tax Office, has served under two administrations and expressed his excitement to begin his term leading the office that assesses and collects property tax revenues for the County, various municipalities and school districts.

“I am proud of our Hidalgo County taxpayers, who continue to uphold their responsibility to our government,” Villarreal remarked. “I am grateful that our residents have entrusted me with this responsibility and am eager to continue providing exemplary service to our constituents,” Villarreal continued.

Several other County elected officials were also sworn into office on Jan. 1.
