Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia hosted a Town Hall Meeting in the Delta Area on Wednesday to educate and inform leaders and residents of the communities of Edcouch, Elsa, La Villa, and Monte Alto about the critical and urgent need to improve and upgrade the County’s drainage system.
On Tuesday, August 14, 2012, the Hidalgo County Drainage District #1 Board of Directors/Hidalgo County Commissioners’ Court approved an order and resolution calling for a bond election in November to fund approximately $184 million in drainage improvement projects, including a portion of the Raymondville Drain, the Delta Area Watershed Project, and drainage improvements in rural areas, among others. Judge Garcia, along with Drainage District Manager Godfrey Garza, will be outlining the need for the proposed drainage projects, which will help to move water out of the County more efficiently and alleviate flooding conditions in parts of the County.
This was the first of a series of Town Hall meetings that are planned throughout the County to raise public awareness of the County’s current drainage system, its present challenges, and the critical need for drainage improvements.
