[ARCHIVED] SOS HOPE ANDRADE VISITS HIDALGO COUNTY

Hidalgo County officials welcomed Texas Secretary of State Esperanza “Hope” Andrade at a press conference held Tuesday outside the Elections Department office in Edinburg. Secretary Andrade made a stop at Hidalgo County as part of her outreach efforts across the state to encourage voter participation in the 2012 primary elections.

Secretary Andrade highlighted her office’s Elections Division, which provides oversight and guidance to election officials on the proper conduct of elections. She also promoted the office’s emergent use of social media and other technological means to provide voters with the most useful and convenient resources and tools to access all the information they need to participate in the electoral process. The Secretary of State’s office has launched a helpful website full of resources and information at www.votexas.org.

Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramon reminded the public about key election dates and new voting precinct information; residents were mailed their new voter registration cards last week, and may have changed voting precincts due to redistricting. Early voting for the 2012 primary elections commences Monday, May 14 and ends Friday, May 25; Election Day is May 29. For more information on the 2012 primary elections, visit the County website at www.co.hidalgo.tx.us/elections.
