[ARCHIVED] City of McAllen Approves Animal Control Interlocal with Hidalgo County

WEB McAllen City Council.jpg

The City of McAllen approved an Interlocal Agreement with Hidalgo County and a Memorandum of Understanding with the RGV Low Cost/Spay Neuter Clinic on Monday, April 23, 2012, in an effort to control the growing population of stray dogs and cats in the area. Pet overpopulation is a serious problem in the Rio Grande Valley as more than 40,000 dogs and cats enter the local animal center every year.

The mission of the RGV Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic is to reduce the pet overpopulation by providing high volume, high quality, and affordable sterilization services to all companion animals in the Rio Grande Valley. The clinic will offer low cost spay and neuter surgeries for cats and dogs. Many of the most serious overpopulation issues begin in neighborhoods where individuals have limited access to veterinary care, limited financial resources, or limited education regarding animal issues.
