Commissioners’ Court approved a proclamation declaring Friday, April 13, 2012 as “Purple Up! For Military Kids!” Day in Hidalgo County. The proclamation, presented by Texas AgriLife Extension Service 4-H Agent Christina Perez, encourages County employees and everyone across the State of Texas to wear the color purple on Friday, April 13th to show support for all military children. Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue. April marks the nation’s “Month of the Military Child,” a time to honor youth impacted by deployment. In celebration, Texas Operation: Military Kids (OMK), part of the 4-H Youth Development program of Texas AgriLife Extension, invites you to join in their 2nd Annual “Purple Up! For Military Kids” events. In marking the celebration today, County Employees who wore purple took a group photo in front of the Courthouse.
