Earlier this morning, the Hidalgo County Office of Emergency Management and Sheriff's Department participated in a region-wide Border Security and Public Safety Exercise.The event was hosted by the City of McAllen, in partnership with Motorola Solutions, and other federal, state, county and local Rio Grande Valley public safety agencies in order to showcase the area’s emergency preparedness and response times.
The event consisted of an exercise in which regional emergency response teams worked together to address two separate hazardous material incidents. The exercise allowed the responders to focus on the areas of: Command and Control, Radio Interoperability, and Regional Response capabilities.
In addition to the exercise, the participants were able to test the latest Motorola Solutions communications technology, learning how these new tools can assist first responders with natural or man-made disasters and border security.
Regional entities that participated in the exercise included the: Hidalgo County Sheriff Department, Hidalgo County Office of Emergency Management, McAllen Fire Department, Pharr Fire Department, Palmview Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
