[ARCHIVED] Commissioners' Court Approves 2012 Job Shadow Days Program

Commissioners’ Court approved a proclamation proclaiming February 2, 2012 as Groundhog Job Shadow Day in Hidalgo County. Groundhog Job Shadow Day is a national and local program in which several businesses and high schools team up to provide students with hands-on experience in the work environment of their choice. Thousands of students from across the nation participate in the program each year. Locally, the program is sponsored by Tech Prep of the Rio Grande Valley. Kristina Leal, engineer at Halff Associates, and Justin Villarreal, a student at Nikki Rowe High School, addressed Commissioners’ Court about the importance of the program to the local community. Villarreal spoke of his experience with the program last year when he shadowed at Renaissance Hospital and how it further cultivated his interest in the medical field. The court also approved for Hidalgo County departments to participate in the program throughout the spring semester. View more photos here >>
