On Monday, May 23, 2011, Hidalgo County Commissioners’ Court approved a proclamation announcing May 22-28, 2011 as National Hurricane Preparedness Week, in anticipation of the start of the 2011 Hurricane Season on June 1st.
The County hopes to educate residents on what to do when a hurricane strikes and encourages all residents to make preparations, plan responsibly, and “Be Prepared. Analyze Risk. Make a Plan.” The County, in conjunction with Texas A&M Colonias Program and the Americorps Program will host the 2nd Annual “Dare to Prepare” disaster fairs throughout the month of June at six Community Resource Centers throughout Hidalgo County.
