Before a large crowd of family, friends, local leaders and constituents, Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia was sworn into office earlier today, commencing his four-year term as the County's chief administrator on this first day of 2011. Judge Joe Evins, Garcia's longtime mentor, delivered the oath of office, congratulating Garcia on his commitment to service. Among his priorities, Judge Garcia stressed open government and fiscal accountability, and also spoke of the importance of regional cooperation on critical countywide issues and priorities such as drainage, economic development, and transportation. U. S. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa and McAllen Mayor Richard Cortez also gave remarks at the ceremony, applauding Garcia for his leadership and vision for moving the county forward.
This is Garcia's second term as Hidalgo County Judge, previously serving from 2003-2007.
