Residents now have an easy and convenient location for filing or getting copies of their most important documents at the Hidalgo County Clerk's Office, just one block north of the courthouse.
The Vitals and Official Records departments are the most visited by residents so they were relocated to a more convenient and accessible location at 317 N. Closner Blvd., said County Clerk Arturo Guajardo Jr. during a recent ribbon-cutting event.
“Our goal at the County Clerk’s office is to always find ways to better serve the public,” said Guajardo. “We look forward to continuing our efforts in working with constituents by providing the best, most efficient service we can offer.”
The building, formerly known as Roberts Chevrolet, is located at the northwest corner of Closner and Kuhn and offers free, 30-minute parking steps from the entrance and free public records search stations inside.
On a yearly basis, these two departments process a large volume of the county's vitals and official records documents, Guajardo said. About10,000 marriages licenses and copies; 4,000 birth and death certificates; and more than 265,000 land record documents and copies are recorded and processed by the County Clerk each year.
The County Clerk’s departments pertaining to courts are still located inside the Courthouse.
A free shuttle service provides rides from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from county parking lots to the courthouse daily.
