County and city officials, as well as community members, gathered for a ribbon cutting in honor of the re-opening of the Precinct 5 offices.

Interim Justice of the Peace Jason Peña expressed his gratitude towards Hidalgo County Commissioners Court for entrusting him with such an honorable position.

“I know my Delta Area, and I know we were anxious to get this office back. We will do everything in our power to be able to assist you in every way possible,” said Peña.

Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia said County Commissioners Court worked diligently to get Precinct 5 operational.

“The Precinct 5 offices should have never been closed. It was a great disservice to everyone in this area. I am pleased to know that you are again able to receive the services you need,” said Garcia. “Residents of the Delta Area are very organized, and have the second’ most voter turnout in the county. We owed this to you.”

Hidalgo County Precinct 1 Commissioner David L. Fuentes took the opportunity to thank his fellow Commissioners, as well as Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia for their commitment to bring back these most needed offices to the eastern side of the county.

“I made two promises during my campaign, to work hard, and to bring back Precinct 5. Without the support of the Court, we would not have been able to give the Delta Area the representation they deserve,” said Fuentes. “We all know the west side of the county is growing, but so is the Delta Area, and this assures us that we can keep growing.”

The precinct serves the Delta area, including Elsa, Edcouch, La Villa, Hargill and Monte Alto. The offices provide residents with convenient access to filing civil cases as well as an increased law enforcement presence.
