Hidalgo County residents will soon see improved transportation access and mobility along one of Monte Alto’s main roadways. Joined by Monte Alto ISD officials, Delta Area residents, and county officials, Hidalgo County Pct. 1 David L. Fuentes hosted a groundbreaking for the construction of Valdez Road in Monte Alto. The ceremony was held next to Monte Alto Early College High School, which is one of the main schools that will be positively impacted by the road improvements.“This project is very important to us, our buses and parents come through here daily,” said Monte Alto ISD Superintendent Dr. Richard Rivera. “This project will give them better accessibility to our campus.”Fuentes recognized the efforts of Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1 for their hard work in creating a bypass for the irrigation district which helped prevent future structural issues on the roadway.“Even though the repair meant a delay to the beginning of the project, we did our due diligence,” said Fuentes. “We wanted to build a road that lasts.”This project is one of many recent improvements made in Monte Alto, others include the overlay of Jesus Bazan Road, completed in late March, the first-ever food drive in partnership with the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley, the paving of the Monte Alto High School gym parking lot, and renovations to Monte Alto Veterans Park.“This is not the last time you will see us here in Monte Alto,” added Fuentes. “We will continue to come back and represent all of Hidalgo County Precinct 1.”The project is expected to be completed within 90 days, weather permitting.
