District clerk staff presented a check to Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley (CCRGV) in the amount of $1,700 as a part of their Blues for Bucks Workplace Fundraising Campaign. The staff-driven effort allows employees to wear jeans on Fridays in exchange for a $5 donation. The funds are collected for a six-month period then presented to a nonprofit organization that is randomly selected from a pool of nonprofit entities submitted by office employees.
“It is amazing and wonderful to see the support received by employees who show their compassion and kindness to help those in need…Gracias!” said Sister Norma Pimentel, CCRGV Executive Director.
Catholic Charities is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing assistance to the poor and most vulnerable population in our community. The organization offers services such as the Emergency Assistance Program which provides short-term utility assistance, lodging vouchers or medical needs vouchers. They also offer counseling services to individuals and families, as well as a Disaster Response Program, which helps families recovering from house/property damage due to natural disasters. Most recently, Catholic Charities has been internationally recognized for the Humanitarian Crisis Relief, which began last summer due to the influx of immigrants crossing the border who didn’t have an adequate place to rest.
“We greatly appreciate Sister Pimentel’s efforts and the much-needed services provided by Catholic Charities of the RGV. We are happy to play a small role by making this contribution and hope that it will go a long way in helping those in most need in our region,” said Laura Hinojosa, District Clerk.
