Hidalgo County Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramón is urging voters to review their new, yellow voter registration certificate and to make sure that all of the information is correct and up to date. Reviewing this information now will prevent any delays at the polling location when going to vote. The Elections Department has mailed out over 300,000 voter registration certificates to registered voters in Hidalgo County. The new registration cards are to be used in all upcoming elections through December 31, 2019.The voter registration certificates have the voter's jurisdictional information and inform voters in which voting precinct they reside. Although voters are only required to present either one of the seven eligible photo identifications or a supporting form of ID when voting, using their voter registration certificate along with their acceptable form of identification assures a smooth and quick voting experience at the polls.Residents who have not yet received their certificate in the mail are urged to contact the Elections Department immediately at 956.318.2570. If any changes are to be made to their voter registration information, this change MUST be made by Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, in order to guarantee this information is updated for the March 6, 2018 Primary Election.“You may either come by the Elections Office at 101 S. 10th Avenue in Edinburg, or simply make the change on the back, bottom left of the certificate,” said Ramón. “Sign on the bottom right side and drop in the mail.” If you receive a voter certificate of a voter who no longer resides at the current address, has moved or is deceased, the Elections Department is asking for the public’s help in returning certificates to the Elections Office so that records may be updated. Once again, use the back side of the certificate to offer the explanation and either walk into the office or drop in the mail. The deadline to register to vote and/or make any updates or changes to your voter registration card is Monday, Feb. 5, 2018.
