HIDALGO COUNTY CONTINUES FUNDING FOR CHILDREN'S ADVOCACY CENTER

Juan A. Sanchez Ricardo Guerro Jr. CAC

Commissioners Court approved $50,000 for the Children’s Advocacy Center in its efforts to help abused children in the county.

“We’re hoping to educate the community on child abuse awareness and expand our community outreach efforts into schools,” said Interim Executive Director Jesus A. Salinas.

Salinas reported that the CAC served 1,337 new victims in 2017. CAC works in collaboration with law enforcement, Child Protective Services, and the Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

Studies show that abused children who get early professional assistance are more likely to succeed in dealing and coping with the trauma of abuse and do better later in their adult lives.

“With early intervention, we can help break the cycle of abuse," said Ricardo Guerrero Jr., vice president of the CAC Board of Directors.
