Commissioners Court recognized the Robert Vela High School basketball team for assisting Precinct 4 in preparation for Hurricane Harvey. Commissioner Joseph Palacios presented the team with a plaque for the coaches and certificates of appreciation for each individual player at the meeting.

All hands were on deck as Precinct 4 prepared for the forecasted hurricane last August. Staff and volunteers, including the Vela basketball team, prepared and distributed sandbags to all residents who visited the Field Operations Office.

"We want to thank you for your service, for your help, for your consideration, and for your leadership," Palacios said.

An estimated 30,000 sandbags were distributed to thousands of residents in preparation for the hurricane. In attendance at the meeting were coaches David Keith, Homer Garr and Lucio Rodriguez and several of the players, including Jeremy Rodriguez, Dariel Arostegui, Joshua Villarreal, Matthew Arteaga, Aaron Guerrero, and Andrew Amoh.

"If there is anything in the future that our little army can help you with, we will be there," said Keith.
