Hidalgo County District Clerk staff presented a $3,000 check to Mujeres Unidas/Women Together of McAllen on Friday, Aug. 4, as a part of their Blues for Bucks Workplace Fundraising Campaign.
Established by the District Clerk's Office in 2008, the program allows department staff to voluntarily wear jeans every Friday in exchange for a $5 donation. The contributions are collected and donated to a charitable organization in Hidalgo County which is randomly selected from a pool of non-profit entities submitted by participating staff.
Since 2008, the HCDC has contributed over $60,000 in fundraising monies to charitable organizations in Hidalgo County. This time around, the HCDC staff selected to donate to Mujeres Unidas.
Mujeres Unidas/Women Together is a nonprofit organization focused on providing shelter and other supportive programs for women and children who are victims of domestic violence or sexual assault.
“It’s an honor for us to hand this donation check over to Mujeres Unidas. Our staff was proud to fundraise for such an important cause and we appreciate all Mujeres Unidas does to help women, children and the community,” stated Hidalgo County District Clerks Laura Hinojosa.
