Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Commissioner Joseph Palacios was named the president of the South Texas Judges and Commissioners Association at its annual conference in Corpus Christi.
The association represents 63 of the 254 Texas counties and has more than 1,200 active members. Before taking the helm, Palacios served as second vice president and vice president on the board.
The conference was held June 13-15 at the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel. As president, Palacios will oversee planning and execution of programming for the association and will host the 2018 conference in Hidalgo County.
Outgoing president, Victoria County Judge Ben Zeller, recognized Palacios for his dedication to the association before passing him the gavel to a standing ovation from the packed crowd.
Serving with Palacios on the STCJ&C board are Past-President Zeller, Vice President Jaime Canales, a Webb County Commissioner, and Second Vice President Stephanie Moreno, Bee County Judge.
