During Tuesday's meeting, Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra made a “State of the Sheriff’s Office Address” presentation to Commissioners Court that included an overview of fiscal years 2014 through 2016.

"Every year I speak to different civil organizations and talk about crime data and decided to put a presentation together that shows a general overview and outline of what our office has reported," noted Sheriff Guerra.

Through the support and authorization of Hidalgo County Commissioners Court, Sheriff Guerra worked with the Office of Budget and Management for much needed infrastructure and capital improvement projects which included: technology upgrades, physical security improvements on the Sheriff’s Office grounds, vehicle replacement program, and several other ongoing projects.

One of the Sheriff Offices' main projects was the creation of the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy Tactical Medic Program (HCSO TMP). Through the newly formed HCSO TMP, a handful of deputies were certified as Emergency Medical Technicians.

"These deputies are able to provide critical emergency care if needed," said the sheriff.  "This is the only program of its kind in this region and by late 2017 will be the only training academy in the state authorized to certify LEO’s as EMT’s."
